Ocean Waves Made Easy

On Saturday, November 28, 2009 participants gathered to learn Ocean Waves Made Easy. Our facilitator, Hellen Stafford, guided us through various projects using different techniques to achieve the ocean wave pattern. First was the pin cushion, which would later be stuffed with all the fabric tidbits and thread ends that otherwise would end up in the trash; yet another of Helen’s wonderful ideas. Hot pads/ trivets was the second project and with it another method to create an ocean wave. We finished one of the hot pads and had the pieces ready for the other for homework.

Participants were now to choose one of the two learned methods to create the third project – placemats. This project really showcased the ocean wave pattern and once again it was fun to see the many colours and fabric prints used around the room. Also inspiring was the variety of items Hellen brought that she had made in several colour combinations.

Hellen also shared the method she uses for binding. She demonstrated how to handle corners as well as joining the two ends. This was invaluable information and not just for finishing the placemats! Many thanks to Hellen’s for her patient and thorough instructions along with the provided handouts. Now all participants will have items for the Guild’s next “show and tell”!
