Nel de Porto joined the Sunset Country Quilters Guild during its infancy in the early 1990s. A few of her friends were interested in this new hobby and she went along with them and quickly found that she also loved this new-to-her hobby. This began a life long love of the craft. Most of her work was pieced by machine and quilted by hand. The exception would be her miniature hexagon quilts which were totally done by hand. She hand quilted a few Queen sized whole cloth quilts through the years also.
Nel is an accomplished seamstress, learning her craft at University in Holland. She taught sewing in Home Economics in the Dryden high school so several of our guild members learned their love of sewing while in her class.
Along with the balloon bouquet, the Guild membership sent 100 birthday cards expressing how special she has been to our organization and community.
We are thrilled to hear she is well and wish her continued health and nimble fingers.
